Date: Wed, 09 Oct 2002 02:25:23 Subject: Firmly rooted Friends, As the Apostle Paul is fond of saying, "Grace to you and peace from God our Father." The last month has been excellent. In my last email (http://www.keyspace.org/27) I recounted many travels. However, this month has been quite different. Since the new semester started I have stayed in Sao Paulo tending to my responsibilities. Much progress has been made as well as many changes. Read on to see whats new. I have two roommates for the past few weeks. John Jackson (http://www.trusteam.net/john_jackson.htm), who will be working with John Marshall and me with college students, and Lou Ishikawa, who will be working with the Japanese population here. They are living with me in my current house (pictures of the house are at http://www.keyspace.org/robelia.html). It has been good to have some company. Living alone in a foreign country gets lonely sometimes so I am very grateful for their presence. Having them here has lifted my spirits and helped me fight temptation. Tomorrow John Jackson and I will be moving into an apartment. It is much closer to the main USP campus and will facilitate our work greatly. We hope to eventually start a house church (apartment church?) there. We have already tried to move twice, but plans fell through due to miscommunications, etc. That being the case, I have been living out of a suitcase and sleeping on the floor for about a week now. Things have been going very well with the young man I am discipling at the Law School. We meet together on Thursday mornings after class. I hope to continue pouring into him until my departure in January. The subject of my email, "Firmly Rooted," refers to my continuing progress in my work here as well as my growing relationship with Christ. The longer I stay the better it gets. My language has developed very well, and as hard as living in this city is, I am doing well. If any missionary has questions about bus routes around the city they come to me. Our team's work has finally taken a bit of a root. We have consistent Bible studies and developing student leaders. Christ is at work building His church just as he promised he would in Matthew 16:18. My most pressing prayer needs are: Quality, Spirit-filled time with my disciplee Getting things worked out at the new apartment John Jackson and Lou Ishikawa as they adjust to life in the city I love you guys. Fight the good fight of faith. Justin P.S. Pictures of my Sister and Brother-in-law's trip here are available at http://www.keyspace.org/paulanderinvisit.html
