Date: Mon, 18 Feb 2002 20:43:02 Subject: Still here Friends, It has been over a month since my last update. I hope you haven't forgotten about me. Things have been progressing smoothly, if not slowly; however, it appears the work is starting to come together as students begin to return to campus. I will fill you in on all thats happened. Many different things have happened, but I'll keep it short and sweet. I had dinner at Outback Steakhouse one evening with the other missionaries. It was a carbon copy of one in the States down to the glasses and then music. I went to Campinas, got my national ID card, and spent some time with old friends. On my way back from Campinas I met a young man named Anderson who has lived in the US (New York) for two years and then in Germany (Dusseldorf) for four. He is back in Sao Paulo studying law at USP. We talked for about an hour. He believes that there are many ways to God, not just Christ, and that all "true" worshippers of "god" will obtain eternal life in heaven. I got his phone number and email address and we are going to get together and talk more soon. John and I went to a high rise office building across from USP (University of Sao Paulo) and were granted access to the helicopter pad on the roof to take pictures of the campus and the surrounding area. You can check out the pictures at http://www.keyspace.org/skypics.html. Tonight John and I went to campus and did a little touring. This is freshman week and many people were out buying books and just hanging out. We met with our Brazilian colleague and talked about strategy for the coming semester. It was really cool to get on campus with students and start the process of getting to know them. We are returning to campus on either Wednesday or Thursday night to meet with some girls who are going to participate in, and possibly lead, a Bible study. Since John himself only arrived here a few months before I entered the country we are starting with very little. Up to this point there has been little to no evangelical work on campus. We are pioneering this work in many respects and hope to not only reach USP, but universities all over Brazil. Personally, things have been hard but good. I have battled a lot of loneliness and temptation during this down time. However, God has always come to me and comforted with his Spirit and through his word. I was very encouraged to meet Anderson and also to finally get on campus. I have adjusted well to living in Sao Paulo and feel pretty much at home in an odd sort of way. Please pray for: The students as they return Us as we strategize on how to proclaim the Gospel Anderson as he searches for the true way Thats all for now. Thank you for working with me for the cause of Christ. Justin http://www.keyspace.org
