Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 17:26:29 Subject: Thanksgiving at the beach Prayer Partners, I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving, mine was definitely one to remember. Never before have a gotten sunburn on my feet on Thanksgiving. Never before have I sweat during the meal because it was so hot outside. Never before have I eaten in a Japanese chalet with 8 other families that I just met the day before. This was definitely a year of firsts. It was a bit difficult because I was the only one there alone and I was the only one my age as well. However, the families accepted me and made me feel welcome and at home. The body of Christ is a great thing. I was able to talk with John Marshall (the missionary that I will be working with specifically) a bit about the work I will do next year. Like I said before we are targeting the University of Sao Paulo (USP). USP is the hardest campus to get work started on in the country, but God has already given us doors onto the campus and Bible studies are already beginning. Next year there are going to be a few teams coming form the States for which I will be the liaison. They are going to help us do some work on the campus. I will translate for them, help them get around the city, and take care of other logistical concerns. During all this I will be developing relationships with the administration and with students to help facilitate the production of cell groups on the campus. There are also some web pages that I will be developing along with a database of information about college students. We won't begin our student work until March because the students don't really get back to campus until then. They just got out for Christmas, then after that there is J-term, and then after that is Carnaval (nation wide Mardi Gras on steroids). During this wait I will be getting acquainted with the city, nailing down more language, and working on the technical aspect of things (web pages and whatnot). All this work is pretty much the first of its kind here in Sao Paulo. If it goes well, then much of it will be implemented on campuses across the nation. John Marshall is a sharp guy who has a great vision for the university students of Sao Paulo. I am going to enjoy working with him. We complement each other well. That is, where he is weak, I am strong and vice versa. I finish up language school on December 21. I still don't know if I will move to Sao Paulo before of after Christmas. It will depend on Christmas plans and other logistical matters. Please pray for: USP students - that they would be open to the Gospel Language acquisition Missing people over the holidays Breaking down my foolish pride and letting God control things I have put pictures of the beach up on my website so go have a look (http://www.keyspace.org). Thank you for your continued prayers. Have a great week! Justin
